Salon Manager
 
To become a Shimmer Salon Manager, you will have a friendly and welcoming manner and a natural ability to make clients feel welcomed and relaxed.  You will have an abundance of tact and diplomacy, the initiative and desire to partner with the Directors to grow the business and to build great relationships with clients.  Most importantly you will have the skills to lead, manage and motivate your staff so that your salon achieves amazing client satisfaction levels and exceeds its financial performance targets.
 
Shimmer Salon’s Manager is expected to be a Level 3 qualified and multi-year experienced beautician or nail technician and have at least two years’ experience managing all aspects of a busy salon environment.

Experience:
  • Multi-years’ experience as a ‘working manager’ managing a busy salon
  • Level 3 qualified or equivalent and experienced as a beautician/nail technician.

  • Demonstrate excellent communication, organisational and scheduling skills
  • Hold engaging conversations with clients to put them at ease
  • Be courteous at all times with and demonstrate an ability to empathise with people
  • Project a relaxed and positive attitude
  • Look after both male and female clients and staff
  • Demonstrate a full understanding of all policies and procedures
  • Deal calmly with ‘difficult’ client and/or staff situations.

DUTIES
 
Manage reception area:
  • Answer the telephone and engage clients face-to-face
  • Book clients in for appointments
  • Answer any queries from clients and proposing appropriate services
  • Take cash and credit card payment from clients
  • Help clients to complete treatment disclaimers and react to what is written.
Ensure Client Satisfaction:
  • Greet clients when they enter the salon, make eye contact and show a genuine interest in their beauty and tanning needs
  • Increase the salon’s regular client base, by achieving high re-booking levels whilst ensuring the highest levels of client satisfaction
  • Communicate with clients with a friendly tone and engage them in conversation
  • In the event of complaint, offer the client a polite and apologetic response and make every attempt to resolve the issue.
Maintain and enhance standards in the salon:
  • Ensure the salon is impeccably well-maintained and that staff clean the salon on a regular basis
  • Ensure that salon policies are followed at all times and improve them as needed
  • Maintain all machines, fixtures and fittings in good order at all times, arranging replacement or repair as needed.
Manage staff:
  • Interview, select and hire high-performing staff, in conjunction with the Directors, to ensure that beauty, nails and tanning services are delivered to meet client appointments, across the salon’s opening hours
  • Ensure that employees dress according to salon standards, that they conduct themselves professionally and follow salon rules
  • When standards aren't met, professionally reprimand the offending employee(s) and monitor their performance, including holding regular, documented staff appraisals
  • Motivate and retain staff, reward high-performance and correct under-performance through staff coaching and training, as required
  • Administer and continuously monitor and improve the effectiveness of the staff performance related bonus system.
Manage Financials:
  • Meet or exceed daily and weekly targets for turnover and profit - flag any potential issues and recommend solutions to the Director’s immediately
  • Always be looking to grow turnover and profitability and manage costs down without sacrificing quality
  • Adhere to the salon’s financial policies, including recording the day’s transactions in the Salon’s master Excel spreadsheet and ensure that all staff follow the guidelines
  • Record and retain all receipts/invoices for all Salon expenditure
  • Perform a daily end-of-day reconciliation to ensure that the till balances to cash takings, reporting any variance to the Directors
  • Keep and report weekly upon the salon’s financial records
  • Make bank deposits of cash, operate the payroll system, pay suppliers and ensure approved in-bound invoices are paid on time.
Manage stock:
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of stocked product lines  
  • Track all stock items and their sales
  • Focus on the products and services that are the most popular and profitable, knowing what products need to be ordered and re-stocked, including those products for in-salon use.
Deliver salon services to clients (as required):
On occasions, when the salon is busy and/or understaffed, you will need to step in and deliver treatments and services to clients:
  • Give facials by cleansing, massaging and toning a client’s skin
  • Shape eyebrows
  • Colour and enhancing eyelashes, including lash-lifts, clusters and extensions
  • Give manicures, pedicures and other nail treatments, including extensions and nail art
  • Remove unwanted facial and body hair, including from intimate areas
  • Offer UV (ultraviolet) tanning services and delivering spray tans
  • Deliver massages, using a range of techniques, including aromatherapy
  • Evaluate clients’ skin or body problems and recommending treatment.
Salary
 
We are offering a £23,000 – £32,000 annual salary for a 40-hour week with the potential to earn higher in the range due to our fixed, achievable, bonus scheme. 
The Shimmer Salon bonus scheme allows managers and staff to earn significant bonuses for exceeding levels of salon performance for income generated, re-booking rates, cross-selling and upselling of products and services and most importantly how we grow the satisfaction levels of our clients, meaning that all our staff share financially with the increasing success of the business.  
Your basic salary will be negotiable, based on hours worked and the level of previous experience you have.  We aim to beat successful applicants’ current salary packages, because we only want to attract, recruit and retain the best Salon Managers in the industry.
 
Working hours, patterns and environment
 
You will be expected to work 40 hours per week across our Salon’s opening days, which are from   10-00am, every day expect Sunday, integrating your hours with the hours worked by the Directors, so that Salon opening times are fully covered.  Some evening work will be expected.  Your working hours will, however, be negotiable.
